Unionized nurses from 14 Minnesota-area hospitals have approved a contract that will preserve their pension, health benefits and salaries, ending a three-month battle with area hospitals and avoiding a strike, according to a report by the Star Tribune.
Minnesota Nurses Association compromised on the issue of nurse staffing, according to the report. The nurses had asked for smaller nurse-to-patient ratios in order to improve patient care.
Hospitals have said they will examine ratios following the nurses' concerns about patient safety, according to the report.
