Morgantown, W.Va.-based WVU Health System has appointed Brian Fritz president and CEO of three recently acquired Pennsylvania hospitals: Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg, Latrobe (Pa.) Hospital and Frick Hospital in Mount Pleasant.
Mr. Fritz brings more than 20 years of healthcare leadership experience to the role, according to an Oct. 7 health system news release. He began his career with Independence Health System in 2007 and returned in 2020 as system vice president of surgical services. In 2023, he was named president of Westmoreland, Latrobe and Frick hospitals.
The appointment follows WVU Medicine’s Oct. 1 acquisition of five hospitals from Greensburg-based Independence. The hospitals began operating under the WVU Medicine brand immediately following the acquisition.
The executive leadership team also includes Mary Elizabeth Kovacik Eicher, MD, as chief medical officer; Allison Lutz as CFO; Scott Koscho as COO of Westmoreland Hospital; and Michael Sekhon, PharmD, as COO of Latrobe Hospital. David Rottinghaus, MD, will continue as president of the affiliated medical groups.
