Mr. Bergenfeld will start in his new position on Sept. 10 and replaces Fred Harder, who resigned earlier this month.
Troubled Valley Health filed for Chapter 9 bankruptcy protection in 2007, after a measure that would have allowed the sale of the system to a private company was voted down. According to the report, the hospital district has been negotiating its sale exclusively with a doctor’s group, Physicians for Healthy Hospitals, since the end of last month. Other companies, such as Universal Health Services, have also expressed interest in buying Valley Health.
