Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt Health named Kevin Byram, MD, as medical director of the Vanderbilt specialty pharmacy, effective Oct. 1.
Dr. Byram holds several positions at Vanderbilt, including medical director of rheumatology at The Vanderbilt Clinic, co-director of the Vanderbilt Vasculitis Center, and associate professor of medicine in the division of rheumatology and immunology.
He succeeds Sara Horst, MD, who now serves as vice chair for clinical informatics and care transformation, according to a Sept. 24 news release.
Vanderbilt’s specialty pharmacy offers care for “complex and often chronic, rare conditions ranging from cystic fibrosis and hemophilia to inflammatory bowel disease and muscular dystrophy,” according to the release.
The specialty pharmacy launched in 2011 and is accredited as a rare disease pharmacy center of excellence by the Utilization Review Accreditation Commission. More than 70 pharmacists and pharmacy technicians provide specialty therapy management programs, financial counseling, and assessments and interventions, the release said.
