UToledo Health taps COO, chief administrative officer

UToledo Health has promoted two executives to new roles at The University of Toledo (Ohio) Medical Center.

Russ Smith, PharmD, senior hospital administrator, has been named COO, according to a June 3 health system news release. In his new role, Dr. Smith will oversee hospital operations and continue to lead the Eleanor N. Dana Cancer Center, as well as pharmacy, laboratory and radiology operations.

Dr. Smith joined the hospital in 1995 as an inpatient pharmacist. He later served as director of pharmacy and chief pharmacy officer before being named senior hospital administrator in 2021.

Marci Cancic-Frey, senior administrative director of clinical operations, has been appointed chief administrative officer. She will lead outpatient clinical operations, food and nutrition services, therapy services, and the hospital’s transplant program.

Ms. Cancic-Frey joined the organization in 2011 as a physical therapist.
