Brian Dean was appointed executive vice chancellor for health affairs at the University of Texas System, effective Aug. 1.
According to a July 10 release, Mr. Dean most recently served as executive vice president for health affairs at UTHealth Houston and interim executive vice president for health affairs at UT Rio Grande Valley, in addition to serving as a strategic advisor to the UT System Office of Health Affairs. He brings more than 25 years of experience in clinical administration, financial operations and academic health enterprise strategy.
Mr. Dean has also held senior leadership roles at Houston-based Memorial Hermann Health System, Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health, Miami-based Jackson Health System and the University of Kentucky’s Chandler Hospital in Lexington.
The Austin-based UT System comprises 13 institutions enrolling more than 260,000 students and employs more than 160,000 faculty and staff, with a $33.3 billion operating budget for fiscal year 2026. Its health institutions generated nearly 11.7 million outpatient visits and more than 2 million hospital days in the most recently reported year.
