Kate Becker, CEO of Albuquerque, N.M.-based UNM Hospital, plans to retire in December after more than 30 years in healthcare, including the last eight at UNM, according to a statement shared with Becker’s.
“This week, UNM Hospital CEO Kate Becker announced her plans to retire this December, concluding more than three decades of exemplary service in healthcare,” Michael Richards, MD, executive vice president of UNM Health Sciences Center and CEO of UNM Health, said in the statement. “I want to express my deep gratitude to Kate for her outstanding leadership and the significant impact she has made on New Mexico healthcare.”
Steve McLaughlin, MD, chief medical officer of UNM Hospital, has been named interim vice president of clinical affairs and will help lead the organization during the transition. An emergency medicine physician, Dr. McLaughlin previously served as chair of the department of emergency medicine in the University of New Mexico School of Medicine.
UNM Health said Ms. Becker’s retirement will take effect in December.
