University of Chicago Medicine hires new associate general counsel: 3 things to know

Catherine L. Garvey, RN, has been picked as associate general counsel for University of Chicago Medicine, according to a Chicago Daily Law Bulletin report.

Here are three things to know about Ms. Garvey.

1. She is joining University of Chicago Medicine from Brennan Garvey, a Chicago-based law firm she co-founded. She plans to leave the firm in May.

2. At University of Chicago Medicine, Ms. Garvey will also serve as executive director of the university's self-insurance program, oversee the university's medical-malpractice litigation, and be able to select law firms to represent University of Chicago Medicine as outside counsel, according to the report.

3. She will not be new to the University of Chicago, as she has prior experience as a pediatric cancer nurse at the university's children's hospital.
