Dr. Washington succeeds Victor Dzau, MD, who stepped down from his role June 30 to become president of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences. Dr. Washington was selected following a national search by a 15-member Duke committee.

In addition to his role as CEO of UCLA Health, Dr. Washington now serves as vice chancellor for health sciences, dean of the David Geffen School of Medicine. He is also a professor of gynecology and health policy. Before joining UCLA in February 2010, he served as executive vice chancellor and provost at the University of California, San Francisco.
