MUSC Health-Orangeburg used to be called Regional Medical Center but changed its name when it joined the health system March 1. David Southerland, president and CEO of the former Regional hospital, did not make the transition to MUSC when the entities synced.

Neither did Dennis Pettigrew, who was serving as the hospital’s interim CFO. His contract ended with the transition to MUSC.

Kellie Suggs, CFO of MUSC Health, is currently serving as the Orangeburg hospital’s CFO. David Zaas, MD, current CEO of MUSC Health’s Charleston division — of which the Orangeburg hospital is a part — is serving as its interim CEO.

The hospital’s search for a CEO has attracted 15 applicants so far, according to Dr. Zaas.

“I will hire a local CEO who is here five days a week, who is part of the community, who really can help us drive the safety, the quality, the service excellence, all of those things,” Dr. Zaas said. “The search process is underway and hopefully will be named in a few weeks. It is going really well.”
