Louisville, Ky.-based ScionHealth has named a new CEO as part of an executive leadership transition.
ScionHealth said the leadership structure is designed to support the organization’s evolving strategy and future direction.
Doug Shirley, who has served as CFO since April 2025, was named CEO, according to a June 10 news release. Mr. Shirley brings more than 25 years of healthcare leadership experience to the role.
Before joining ScionHealth, he was executive vice president and CFO of PathGroup. He also served as national group and head of enterprise revenue cycle management at Brentwood, Tenn.-based Surgery Partners and CFO of Camden, N.J.-based Cooper University Health Care.
As part of the leadership transition, Rob Jay, who has served as CEO since ScionHealth’s formation in 2021, will become executive chairman, according to the release. Mr. Jay will serve in a strategic and advisory capacity while also leading ScionHealth’s board of directors.
Additionally, Scott Graeser, who has served as vice president of finance and treasurer since 2022, was named executive vice president and CFO. He will oversee the company’s financial strategy, capital structure and risk management.
ScionHealth also confirmed COO Danny Brywczynski, General Counsel Jack Seal and Chief People and Compliance Officer Michelle Rigby as members of its executive leadership team.
ScionHealth has also made at least one other leadership change in recent weeks. Ryan Cassedy started a new role as market CEO in Indianapolis with ScionHealth, whose long-term acute care hospitals operate under the Kindred Hospitals brand, according to a June 14 LinkedIn post.
The leadership transition comes days after Brentwood, Tenn.-based Lifepoint Health completed its acquisition of eight community hospitals from ScionHealth on June 2.
At the time, ScionHealth said the sale would concentrate its operations on specialty hospital services while leaving a smaller community hospital presence in select markets.
