Saint Joseph Mercy Health System CEO Garry Faja announces retirement

Garry C. Faja, regional president and CEO of Saint Joseph Mercy Health System in Ann Arbor, Mich., has announced he will retire at the end of the year.

Under his leadership, the southeast Michigan CHE Trinity Health hospitals and health centers were united into one large regional health delivery system with multiple sites as Saint Joseph Mercy Health System. Mr. Faja was the health system’s first CEO.

Mr. Faja has achieved many accomplishments during his tenure, including serving as a principal voice in Medicaid expansion, a founding member of Washtenaw Housing Alliance and a founder of the Mercy Cancer Network. He was also a key figure in the establishment of The Quality Institute at Saint Joseph Mercy Health System.

“Garry has influenced every aspect of the organization and been instrumental in developing hospitals that are engineered to bring together patient satisfaction and quality,” said Sally Jeffcoat, executive vice president of the West/Midwest Group of CHE Trinity Health. “We thank Garry for his commitment, dedication, service and strategic leadership of our ministry.”
