Ramanathan Raju, MD. President and CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals. At the helm of NYC Health + Hospitals, Dr. Raju leads the largest municipal healthcare system in the United States, comprised of 42,000 employees working in more than 70 locations across the city. Mayor Bill de Blasio appointed Dr. Raju to serve as president and CEO of the $7.2 billion health system in January 2014. Before that, Dr. Raju served as CEO of Chicago-based Cook County Health & Hospitals System. He spent 25 years as a practicing vascular and trauma surgeon in Brooklyn at the beginning of his career, after which he served as COO and medical director at NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island. He was named CMO, corporate COO and executive vice president of NYC Health + Hospitals in 2006.
