Ella Goss, MSN, RN, plans to retire Aug. 1 as chief executive of Anchorage-based Providence Alaska.
Ms. Goss has been with Renton, Wash.-based Providence for nearly three decades, according to a June 25 Providence Alaska news release. She was the first woman and registered nurse who is not a nun to lead Providence Alaska since the Sisters of Providence.
“After caring for family members going through recent health issues out of state, it has become clear that I need to quickly transition to the next chapter of my life,” Ms. Goss said in the release. “I’ve learned from experience the importance of being present for loved ones during their time of greatest need.”
She joined Providence in 1997 as a nurse at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, later serving as director of medical staff and director of the Providence Cancer Center. She was appointed region chief executive in 2022.
Providence Alaska is the state’s largest private employer with more than 4,000 employees.
