Pay for Executives at Carolinas HealthCare, Novant Health Stable in 2009

Compensation in 2009 for executives at the two leading health-care systems in Charlotte, N.C. — including salary, bonuses and other benefits — changed little from the year before, according to a report by the Charlotte Business Journal.

Pay for the top 10 executives at Carolinas HealthCare System totaled almost $14 million in 2009, about the same as the year before. Carolinas HealthCare CEO Michael Tarwater earned $3.4 million in 2009, down from $3.5 million the year before.

The top 10 executives at Novant Health earned just over $11 million in 2009, up from $10 million in 2008. Novant Health CEO Paul Wiles earned a little more than $2 million, roughly the same as in 2008.
