Tauana McDonald plans to retire at the end of 2026 as president and CEO of Columbus, Ohio-based Mount Carmel Health System after nearly a decade with the organization.
Ms. McDonald joined Mount Carmel in 2017 as its first chief administrative officer and became president and COO of Mount Carmel Grove City in 2020, according to a Sept. 1 health system news release shared with Becker’s. She became president and CEO of Mount Carmel in 2024, becoming the first African American woman to lead the system in its more than 140-year history.
During her tenure, Ms. McDonald led Mount Carmel Grove City (Ohio) through a financial, quality and cultural turnaround that resulted in $34 million in operating income. As CEO, she oversaw the opening of Mount Carmel Dublin (Ohio), the system’s fifth hospital, and the addition of emergency services at Mount Carmel New Albany (Ohio).
Ms. McDonald will retire after a 23-year career with Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health, Mount Carmel’s parent system. Mount Carmel employs more than 9,000 people.
