NHRMC picks COO to succeed CEO: 3 things to know

New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, N.C., has appointed COO John Gizdic the successor for president and CEO Jack Barto, who is retiring.

Here are three things to know about Mr. Gizdic.

1. He will become president July 1, 2016, in addition to his current duties. Mr. Barto, who has led the hospital over the past 12 years, will remain CEO until his retirement date, no later than June 30, 2017.

2. Mr. Gizdic began at NHRMC in 2005 as vice president of strategic planning and business development. He became COO in 2013.

3. During his tenure at NHRMC, Mr. Gizdic led or directed several key initiatives, including creating the physician network that became NHRMC Physicians Group leading the hospital’s accountable care organization, facilitating numerous joint ventures in partnership with physicians and spearheading the organization’s effort to improve efficiencies which has led to an $100 million operational improvement in four years, according to a news release.
