Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, N.Y., named Thomas Stokes CEO, following a unanimous board vote.

Mr. Stokes brings more than 25 years of experience in healthcare operations, finance and public administration, according to a Nov. 25 hospital news release shared with Becker’s. He is set to begin the role in January.

Mr. Stokes most recently served as CFO of New York City-based Weill Cornell Medicine and vice president for finance at Cornell University. He previously held leadership roles within the Weill Cornell Medicine Physician Organization and Weill Cornell Imaging at NewYork-Presbyterian.

The hospital is operated by Nassau Health Care Corp., which was restructured earlier in 2025 to be governed by 11 members, including six appointed by Gov. Kathy Hochul.

“Under Governor Hochul’s leadership, the NHCC Board was restructured to bring stronger oversight and expertise to NUMC, and Tom’s appointment reflects that continued progress,” Board Chair Stuart Rabinowitz said in the release. “His arrival strengthens a system that has already made important strides — increasing revenue, improving operations, and reducing costs.”

Mr. Stokes succeeds Richard Becker, MD, who had served as interim CEO following the termination of former CEO Megan Ryan.

Nassau University Medical Center is a 530-bed tertiary-care teaching hospital that treats more than 80,000 emergency patients annually.
