New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health has named Brian Kim, MD, the system’s first chief biotechnology officer.
Dr. Kim will also serve as head of intellectual asset management at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research, Northwell’s research arm based in Manhasset, N.Y.
Dr. Kim joins Northwell from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. He will hold the inaugural Robin and Jack Ross Chair in Bioelectronic Medicine and Neuroimmunology and serve as a professor in Northwell’s Institute of Bioelectronic Medicine and its dermatology department, according to a July 6 news release from the health system.
A dermatologist and physician-scientist, Dr. Kim has written more than 190 peer-reviewed publications. His research led to two first-in-class FDA-approved treatments for atopic dermatitis and prurigo nodularis.
In his new role, Dr. Kim will oversee biotechnology strategy and intellectual property management while continuing his research, the release said.
