The 303-bed hospital confirmed Mr. Marchand’s retirement in a July 31 statement.
Memorial Hospital at Gulfport Board of Trustees Chairman David White told WLOX Mr. Marchand’s decision did not come as a surprise to officials and is not connected to CFO Jeff Steiner’s retirement less than one week prior.
“This day was coming; it’s not just something that just popped out of the blue,” he said. “A lot of people would love to think, ‘Oh, there’s a scandal going on with Memorial Hospital.’ There is no such thing.”
Mr. Marchand reiterated the sentiment to the publication, stating: “There’s nothing from the federal agencies going on, nothing from any state agencies going on. This is two elder statesmen on the administrative team that are exercising their right to retire.”
Hospital officials said COO Kent Nicaud will take over as president and CEO of the institution. He reportedly signed a one-year contract for the position, the report states.
