Craig Richmond has resigned as CFO of MetroHealth after nine years in the role, according to the Cleveland-based health system.

The resignation comes three months after MetroHealth’s board of trustees fired former president and CEO Akram Boutros, MD, for allegedly authorizing more than $1.9 million in supplemental bonuses for himself, without disclosure to the board. Dr. Boutros has alleged board retaliation, and an investigation is ongoing.

Mr. Richmond joined MetroHealth as vice president of revenue cycle in 2010 and became CFO in 2014. During his tenure as CFO, MetroHealth doubled its revenue, secured financing for its campus transformation and expanded several services across the community, according to the health system.

“Craig enhanced information technology and supply chain operations and played a central role in helping the System effectively respond to the COVID-19 pandemic,” Airica Steed, EdD, RN, MetroHealth’s current president and CEO, said in a March 2 email to employees. “I also want to personally recognize his leadership and support over the last several months as I joined the MetroHealth team, which has not gone unrecognized.”

Geoff Himes, the health system’s former vice president of finance, will serve as interim CFO, effective March 6.
