Here are five things to know:
1. The hospital did not comment on the reason for Mr. FitzPatrick’s decision to step down.
2. Prior to being named CEO of the hospital in 2014, Mr. FitzPatrick was senior vice president for network development for West Des Moines, Iowa-based Mercy Health Network.
3. He previously served as president and CEO of Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
4. Rod Schlader, Mercy’s regional CFO, will serve as interim CEO until a permanent successor is identified.
5. Mr. FitzPatrick will stay on through the fall to help Mr. Schlader and ensure a smooth transition.
