Sheila Pinette, MD, was reassigned to the CHO role in February. She previously served as head of the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, a position she held since 2011.

Maine DHHS Commissioner Mary Mayhew told the Portland Press Herald that Dr. Pinette left voluntarily. She did not elaborate on the circumstances of her resignation, but did say Dr. Pinette will continue to work as a contracted state epidemiologist while the state continues its search for a permanent epidemiologist.

In February, the DHHS settled a civil lawsuit filed by two former CDC employees who alleged Dr. Pinette and other CDC officials shredded public documents and harassed them, according to the report. DHHS did not admit any wrongdoing.
