Maine Hospital CEO Placed on Administrative Leave

Wayne Dodwell, CEO of Down East Community Hospital in Machias, Maine, has been placed on administrative leave after the hospital was informed that it would no longer receive Medicaid reimbursements, according to a report in the Bangor Daily News.

Craig Jesiolowski, a regional vice president with hospital management firm Quorum Health Resources, has been appointed as the interim CEO of DECH.

Mr. Dodwell’s replacement comes after the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services told DECH that the hospital will no longer be able to accept Medicare reimbursements as of July 10.

Mr. Jesiolowski will serve as CEO while CMS and the Maine Department of Health and Human Services discuss the future of the hospital, which may include a state takeover, according to the report.
