Here are six things to know:
1. Dr. Antonucci most recently served as COO of the health system, a title he held since 2011.
2. He will assume his new role on June 1, when Mr. Nathan retires.
3. Mr. Nathan asked the board to name Dr. Antonucci CEO. While some board members worried about moving too quickly, others preferred a quick and smooth transition. “We’ve heard some unbelievable testimonies today, and I’ve heard nothing but positive things,” said Stephen Brown, a board member, told the News-Press.
4. In a nine to one vote, the board named Dr. Antonucci to the health system’s top position on May 4.
5. Dr. Antonucci, an obstetrics and gynecology physician, holds an MBA degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa.
6. He joined Lee Health in 2007 as chief administrative officer for Cape Coral (Fla.) Hospital.
