Madison, Wis.-based Dean Health System and St. Louis-based SSM Health Care are inching towards one another in formal talks to explore closer collaboration, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report.
SSM already owns 5 percent of Dean. Both health systems also share ownership in Dean Health Plan and more than half of the 60 Dean clinics in southern Wisconsin. Discussions are expected to take place over the next year, and the organizations have said it is still too early to speculate on any specifics, according to the report.
In other news, a new $145 million hospital and clinic — backed by SSM and Dean —opened yesterday. It’s called St. Mary’s Janesville (Wis.) Hospital and Dean Clinic-Janesville East.
