Joseph Cacchione, MD, has signed a five-year contract extension to remain CEO of Philadelphia-based Jefferson Health through 2029.

Jefferson’s board unanimously approved the extension, according to a May 28 health system news release. His previous contract was set to expire at the end of 2027, a Jefferson spokesperson confirmed to Becker’s.

Dr. Cacchione became CEO in 2022. Under his leadership, the $15.5 billion system has grown to 65,000 employees, 700 sites of care and 32 hospitals.

Milestones of his tenure include the August merger with Allentown, Pa.-based Lehigh Valley Health Network, and securing $300 million in philanthropic support for the system, including a $50 million gift for the Honickman Center.

The contract extension follows the May 1 appointment of Michael Harrington as Jefferson’s executive vice president and CFO.
