Iowa Health System ACO Names Michael Murphy CEO

Michael MurphyDes Moines, Iowa-based Iowa Health System has named Michael Murphy president and CEO of its accountable care organization.

Mr. Murphy will help Iowa Health System make the transition to accountable care, moving from fee-for-service reimbursements to some form of capitation with incentives for physicians to improve quality of care. He previously led accountable care development and clinical integration programs at Trinity Health in Novi, Mich., a system that owns 35 hospitals and manages 12 others in that state.

"The key to that innovation is the physician," Mr. Murphy said in a statement. "By putting the physician, at the center of the patient care model, physician leaders can foster a collaborative environment," he said.

Mr. Murphy said he was impressed with Iowa Health System's commitment to physician alignment and coordination. He assumes his duty as CEO of accountable care organization for Iowa Health System starting mid-May.
