Hospitals Account for Nearly 27% of Healthcare’s $24.5B Impact on San Antonio

The healthcare and bioscience industry creates an economic impact of $24.5 billion, with hospitals account for 26.8 percent of that impact, according to a My San Antonio report.

The medical sector is the largest in the city in terms of employment and paid $6.5 billion in wages and salaries to 141,251 employees in 2009. Those jobs account for 17.2 percent of the city’s workforce.

Annual incomes of workers in the health services sector, such as hospitals and physician offices, averaged $45,485, according to the report.
