Hospital president to retire from NorthShore University HealthSystem

Evanston (Ill.) Hospital President Doug Silverstein will retire from NorthShore University HealthSystem, now part of NorthShore — Edward-Elmhurst Health, according to an April 24 news release from the health system.

Mr. Silverstein will retire at the end of the year following more than four decades of service with the organization, according to the release.

His 42 years of service began in 1981 when he worked as a summer intern. After completing his graduate work and serving in leadership positions at other health systems, Mr. Silverstein returned to Evanston Hospital in 1992 as a vice president, according to the release. He then served as president of Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview, Ill., before returning to Evanston Hospital as president in 2012. 

During his tenure as a hospital president, he played key roles in health IT, merging medical informatics and information systems, according to the release. 

NorthShore — Edward-Elmhurst Health is a nine-hospital health system with more than 27,000 employees.
