HCA Healthcare taps new chief clinical officer, president of ambulatory operations

Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare named Michael Schlosser, MD, executive vice president and chief clinical officer, and Charles Gressle president of HCA Healthcare’s new Ambulatory Operations Group.

Dr. Schlosser currently serves as senior vice president and chief transformation officer and will step into his new roles Sept. 1, according to an Aug. 6 system news release shared with Becker’s. As chief clinical officer, Dr. Schlosser will assume responsibility for the system’s Clinical Services Group, which includes quality, hospital chief medical officers, nursing, graduate medical education, hospital-based services and other enterprise clinical functions. He will continue to lead HCA Healthcare’s digital transformation and innovation and oversee clinical informatics and enterprise strategy for electronic health records, digital technologies and data platforms. He succeeds Michael Cuffe, MD, who is stepping down effective Aug. 31 and will continue serving as an executive consultant through February 2027 to support the leadership transition. 

Mr. Gressle will be responsible for HCA Healthcare’s Physician Services Group, which includes urgent care operations and physician practice operations, effective Sept. 1. He will also oversee the system’s surgery ventures group. He currently serves as president of HCA Healthcare’s East Florida Division.

The system is currently searching for Dr. Schlosser’s and Mr. Gressle’s successors.
