Robert Garrett, CEO of Edison, N.J.-based Hackensack Meridian Health, plans to retire June 30.
Mr. Garrett will continue as CEO while the health system’s board conducts a national search for his successor, according to a Sept. 21 health system news release. The board plans to name a new CEO by the end of the first quarter of 2027.
Mr. Garrett will transition to CEO emeritus July 1 for up to one year to assist the board and incoming CEO with the transition.
He has led Hackensack Meridian Health since its creation in 2016 through the merger of Hackensack University Health Network and Meridian Health. He was co-CEO before becoming the sole CEO in 2018.
During Mr. Garrett’s tenure, Hackensack Meridian Health grew to 18 hospitals, 41,000 team members and more than 500 patient care locations throughout New Jersey. The system also opened the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine.
