Ms. Margolis made history as the first woman to serve as a hospital CEO for Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare. Her retirement took effect in October, a spokesperson for the hospital confirmed to Becker’s Dec. 13.
Heather Redrick, who serves in a dual capacity as the hospital’s chief operating officer and chief nursing officer, is its new leader. The hospital “will no longer have anyone in a CEO role,” the spokesperson told Becker’s.
Emory Johns Creek Hospital is not the first to phase out the CEO role. In November, two CEOs at California hospitals managed by Renton, Wash.-based Providence left their positions as part of a decision to streamline leadership. The health system named a new regional CEO who also became CEO of one of the hospitals, while the other did not replace the CEO and opted to hire a chief administrative officer instead.
