Dr. Ije Akunyili appointed chief medical officer of RWJBarnabas hospital

Jersey City (N.J.) Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas facility, appointed Ije Akunyili, MD, chief medical officer.

Dr. Akunyili stepped into her role on Jan. 2. She is the medical center’s first Black CMO, according to a Jan. 11 release.

Previously, Dr. Akunyili served as regional medical director for TeamHealth, Northeast group, where she oversaw emergency departments and critical care and hospitalist service lines across four states.
