Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia recently named Jesse Taylor, MD, as surgeon-in-chief and chair of the department of surgery.
Dr. Taylor, who assumed the new role July 1, previously served as chief of the division of plastic, reconstructive and oral surgery at CHOP, a post he held for eight years. He holds the Peter Randall Endowed Chair in Plastic Surgery and is a professor in the division of plastic surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
He succeeds N. Scott Adzick, MD, who is stepping down as surgeon-in-chief after 31 years in the role. Dr. Adzick will remain at CHOP as a surgeon and faculty member, according to a news release.
Dr. Taylor co-directs CHOP’s craniofacial program and has authored more than 370 peer-reviewed articles, the release said. He serves as a director of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and secretary general of the International Society of Craniofacial Surgery. He joined the Penn faculty in 2010 after being recruited from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
In June, CEO Madeline Bell, BSN, announced plans to retire from CHOP after nearly 40 years with the organization. Her successor will be the organization’s president, Joseph Mitchell, MD.
