Carle Health taps technology chief from Renown

Steven Ramirez, former chief information security and technology officer of Reno, Nev.-based Renown Health, has joined Urbana, Ill.-based Carle Health as senior vice president and chief technology officer.

Mr. Ramirez started in the role in September, according to his LinkedIn profile. He is accountable for the governance, prioritization and sustainability of enterprise technology across Carle’s eight hospitals.

His portfolio covers Epic and other clinical systems, the enterprise technology roadmap, the project management office and enterprise platforms including Workday. He also leads infrastructure and technical operations, including networks, data centers, the service desk, telecommunications and biomedical device integration. Through matrixed leadership, he guides cybersecurity and resilience as well as AI and innovation.

Mr. Ramirez spent nearly five years at Renown. He joined in January 2022 as vice president and chief information security officer and added chief technology officer duties in May 2023, holding the combined role until September 2026.

Before Renown, he was assistant vice president and chief information security officer of Louisville, Ky.-based UofL Health from 2020 to 2022. His earlier roles include IT security and privacy officer at IBM, IT solutions lead at Change Healthcare, corporate IT manager at Louisville-based Baptist Health, and business resilience manager at Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health Initiatives. At Catholic Health Initiatives, he supported IT risk management and disaster recovery programs across 105 hospitals.

Carle described the CTO position as a newly expanded executive role reporting to its executive vice president and COO, according to a May job posting.
