Carmela Coyle plans to retire in early 2027 as president and CEO of the California Hospital Association.
Her retirement marks the culmination of a 44-year career in healthcare policy and advocacy, according to a Feb. 5 news release from the organization. She has led CHA since 2017, guiding the organization through major challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, increasing economic instability for hospitals, and statewide efforts to manage healthcare spending.
Before joining CHA, Ms. Coyle served as president and CEO of the Maryland Hospital Association for nine years and spent two decades with the American Hospital Association, including 15 years in Washington, D.C., as a member of its executive management team. She also worked at the Congressional Budget Office earlier in her career, according to the release.
CHA is a nonprofit, member-driven trade group that represents nearly 400 hospitals in California. The organization said Ms. Coyle will continue in her role until a new president and CEO is named and will support the leadership transition.
