Beth Israel Lahey Health names 1st chief quality officer

Cambridge, Mass.-based Beth Israel Lahey Health has appointed Yael Heher, MD, as its inaugural chief quality officer, the health system said Nov. 6.

Dr. Heher most recently served as associate chief of pathology quality and safety and head of renal pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was also vice chair of quality and safety for Boston-based Mass General Brigham’s enterprise lab service. In this role, she created a systemwide quality and safety division to address diagnostic errors. 

Prior to joining Massachusetts General, Dr. Heher led pathology quality and safety at Boston-based Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. During her time at the medical center, she created a framework for the multidisciplinary review of safety events, which has been widely adopted worldwide.
