Banner Health names CEO of southern Wyoming operations: 5 things to know

Phoenix-based Banner Health has named Shelby Nelson CEO of its southern Wyoming operations.

Here are five things to know about Ms. Nelson.

1. In this new role, Ms. Nelson will lead an executive team that will be responsible for operations and strategic planning for Community Hospital in Torrington and Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland.

2. In addition to her regional CEO duties, she will serve as COO of Platte County to oversee day-to-day operations there.

3. Ms. Nelson has worked for Banner Health since the 1980s and has been CEO of Platte County Memorial Hospital since 2011 and interim CEO of Community Hospital since December 2014. She also previously served as interim CEO at Fairbanks (Alaska) Memorial Hospital.

4. Ms. Nelson's appointment is part of a change in Banner Health's leadership structure for southern Wyoming, and follows a similar approach that Banner Health has taken in northern Colorado. There, one executive team oversees operations for three hospitals: North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, McKee Medical Center in Loveland and Banner Fort Collins Medical Center in Fort Collins.

5. Banner Health also announced the following new roles for southern Wyoming:

  • Jared Stimpson will serve as interim COO of Community Hospital. Mr. Stimpson is CFO in Torrington and will retain those duties in addition to serving this interim assignment.
  • Sandy Dugger will serve as regional chief human resources officer for Banner Wyoming-South. Ms. Dugger's position was created when Platte County Memorial Hospital chief human resources officer Jennifer Sherwood accepted a promotion to a Banner Health hospital in Tucson, Ariz.
