Ascension taps chief government relations officer

Samuel Marchio has been appointed senior vice president and chief government relations and policy officer at St. Louis-based Ascension.

Mr. Marchio brings more than 25 years of experience in healthcare policy and public affairs, according to an April 13 LinkedIn post from the health system.

In his new role, he will lead Ascension’s policy and government relations strategy, aligning advocacy work with community needs, the post said.

Mr. Marchio has served as vice president of federal and external affairs at Elevance Health since 2021, according to his LinkedIn profile. Before that, he spent more than a decade with Anthem, most recently as regional vice president of federal government relations.

Ascension operates 90 wholly owned or consolidated hospitals and 22 senior living facilities.
