Albany (N.Y.) Med Health System’s board voted unanimously to terminate the employment of President and CEO Daniel Pickett III, effective immediately, according to a Nov. 4 board statement shared with Becker’s.

The board said its review focused on the best interest of employees, the community and the system, which led it to determine “that a leadership change was necessary.”

Matthew Jones, the system’s executive vice president and general counsel, will continue to serve as acting CEO while the board conducts a national search for a permanent leader with help from an outside executive search firm. The board also said it will review and strengthen its governance and decision-making process.

The board placed Mr. Pickett on paid leave Oct. 3, pending an outside review conducted by risk advisory firm Kroll. The review examined sexual assault allegations made against him by a former girlfriend in court filings tied to civil litigation between the two. He has denied the allegations and filed a defamation lawsuit against the woman. She filed a second civil action Oct. 21 seeking damages over the alleged assault, the Times Union reported. Mr. Pickett, who was serving as board chair at the time, was named CEO in December 2025.

Albany Med Health System has 1,520 hospital beds, more than 900 physicians and 125 outpatient locations.

Becker’s has reached out to Mr. Pickett and will update this story if a comment is received.
