Steve Walsh has been named president and CEO of the American Hospital Association, effective fall 2026. He will succeed Rick Pollack, who will retire by the end of 2026.
Mr. Walsh was unanimously selected by AHA’s board. He has served as president and CEO of the Massachusetts Health & Hospital Association since 2017, according to a June 30 news release shared with Becker’s.
He also served six terms in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, including as chair of the House Committee on Health Care Financing.
In his new role, Mr. Walsh will oversee the nation’s largest hospital and health system membership organization, which represents nearly 5,000 member hospitals, health systems, networks and other care providers.
“The next era of American healthcare is bright for the patients and caregivers we serve, all of whom will benefit from our members’ unified focus around access, quality and innovation,” Mr. Walsh said in the release. “To write the next chapter will require creative leadership, hard-earned trust and the willingness to bring unlikely partners to the same table. “
