AHA’s letter stated that the rules to manage the Medicare and Medicaid EHR incentive programs are “overly complex and confusing, leaving many hospitals concerned with their ability to meet the programs’ demands.” The letter also said requirements for meaningful use should be clear but not overly specific, and physicians and hospitals should have an easier way to use vendor products while still meeting certified EHR technology.
HIPAA 5010 compliance, the upcoming ICD-10 standard and growing quality measures are other areas of concern as HHS’ regulatory initiatives continue to progress, the letter said.
