Indianapolis-based Indiana University has named Scott Boden, MD, executive vice president for university clinical affairs and dean of the IU School of Medicine, according to a May 28 news release.
Dr. Boden will be the 11th dean in the school’s 123-year history when he assumes the role Sept. 8. He succeeds Jay Hess, MD, who is stepping down in July.
Dr. Boden spent 34 years at Atlanta-based Emory University, where he most recently served as a professor, chair emeritus of orthopedic surgery, and vice chair for professional development and innovation. He also served as Emory Healthcare’s first chief strategy officer, growing its musculoskeletal service line from $20 million to $500 million, the release said.
IU School of Medicine enrolls nearly 1,500 medical students and more than 1,400 residents and fellows annually across nine campuses, making it the nation’s largest medical school.
