Acadia General Hospital CEO Don Trexler steps down

Crowley, La.-based Acadia General Hospital CEO Don Trexler is leaving his post, effective March 24, 2017. Lafayette (La.) General Health, the hospital’s parent, is immediately starting a national search to identify his replacement.

Mr. Trexler is leaving to take on the position of president at New Orleans-based JenCare. He has been serving as Acadia General CEO since March 2016, initially serving in an interim capacity before being promoted to permanent head of the hospital. During his tenure, the hospital made a profit in October 2016 — the first time since 2009.

“Don helped AGH turn the corner and erase a very large deficit that it had faced month over month. At the same time, he will be the first to admit that it was the team at AGH who was ultimately responsible for the turnaround. I have confidence in the AGH team.  They are a strong group who will keep the momentum going,” said Lafayette General Health President David L. Callecod in a hospital statement.

The health system will also put an interim management plan into place over the next few weeks to ensure a smooth transition.
