Academic medical center president to lead Institute for Healthcare Improvement

The Institute for Healthcare Improvement has named Sylvia Trent-Adams, PhD, RN, as its upcoming president and CEO, effective July 14. 

Dr. Trent-Adams previously served as president of the University of North Texas Health Science Center, an academic medical center in Fort Worth. She spent more than 30 years in the Army and the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. Dr. Trent-Adams also led public health initiatives at HHS focused on HIV/AIDS and Ebola.

Kedar Mate, MD, stepped down as IHI’s president and CEO in December. Since then, Melissa Panagides-Busch has served as COO and interim CEO. When Dr. Trent-Adams begins her new role, Ms. Panagides-Busch will resume her position as COO.
