CFO Steve Short: Strengthening Financial Performance at Tampa General Hospital

Tampa General Hospital in Florida — the primary teaching hospital for the University of South Florida College of Medicine — has experienced solid financial performance and maintained a strong market position under the leadership of CFO and Executive Vice President Steve Short.

steve shortTampa General received an "A3" rating from Moody's Investors Service in July for roughly $36 million in hospital revenue refunding bonds. Moody's also affirmed a stable outlook for the system and noted improving financial performance in the first eight months of fiscal year 2013 with a 3 percent operating margin and 9.1 percent operating cash flow margin.

Mr. Short has served as Tampa General's CFO since July 2000. Before obtaining his current position, he was vice president of operations and CFO of the University of Louisville (Ky.) Hospital for five years. Previously, he served as assistant vice president of finance at University of Louisville Hospital and was a financial specialist at Humana Hospital of San Antonio, Texas, now known as Metropolitan Methodist Hospital.

He holds an MBA from Indiana University and a bachelor's degree in accounting from Arizona State University.
