CEO Timothy Goldfarb: Strategic Navigation at Shands HealthCare

Timothy Goldfarb joined Shands HealthCare in Gainesville, Fla., as CEO in July 2001. Shands is a private, non-profit healthcare system affiliated with the University of Florida in Gainesville and its Health Science Center. Mr. Goldfarb has been responsible for guiding the strategic direction of Shands HealthCare, a leader for healthcare referrals in the state of Florida and one of the most respected healthcare systems in the Southeast.

From 1986 to 2001, Mr. Goldfarb served as director of the University Hospital and Health Care Systems at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. As director of University Hospital and Health Care Systems, he was responsible for hospital operations and establishing a regional provider network. He was able to increase market share for the health system in a highly competitive managed care market. His other accomplishments included contributing to transforming OHSU's medical center from a state institution to a non-profit, public corporation and developing a network of affiliated hospitals and physicians. Earlier in his career, Mr. Goldfarb served as senior associate director of Arizona Medical Center in Tucson and as assistant administrator of Tucson General Hospital.

Mr. Goldfarb is active in a variety of professional associations. He is a member of the University HealthSystem Consortium in Chicago and served as chair of the governing board of the UHC from 2006 to 2009. Mr. Goldfarb is a member of the Florida Hospital Association and served as the FHA chair from 2007 to 2008. He is also a board member of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, a member of the executive board of the National Association of Public Hospitals and a former board member of the Trauma Center Association of America.
