CEO Kim Miller: Delivering Award-Winning Care at Beaver Dam Community Hospitals

Kim Miller, MBA, FACHE, has served as president and CEO of Beaver Dam (Wis.) Community Hospitals since 2006. BDCH is a nonprofit system that offers a full continuum of care.

Ms. Miller began her career as a registered nurse, later earning an MBA and assuming roles as an administrator at various health systems. She now has more than 15 years of experience as a healthcare CEO.

Under the leadership of Ms. Miller, Beaver Dam Community Hospitals has earned the following recognition:

  • The Leapfrog Group, Grade A in Safety (2013, 2014, 2015)
  • Home Care Elite Award, 8 out of 9 years
  • Leapfrog Group Top Rural Hospital (2014, 2015). BDCH is the first and only Wisconsin hospital to earn this honor.
  • Home Care Elite Top 500 Agency (2014)
  • Top 100 Workplaces (2013)

When The Leapfrog Group named BDCH a Top Rural Hospital for the second time, Ms.  Miller said in a news release: "To be recognized for the second year in a row is a testament to the commitment and dedication of the BDCH Medical Staff and providers, our employees and volunteers, and our partners in the community. Working together, we have been able to provide our region with the safe and high-quality care they deserve."

Ms. Miller herself has received national recognition of excellence. In 2012, she earned the Distinguished Service Award from the American College of Healthcare Executives. An ACHE board member from 2008 to 2012, she currently sits on its ethics committee. Ms. Miller also is chair-elect of the board of Vizient (previously Voluntary Hospitals of America) Upper-Midwest Region.  In addition, she is on the Hospital 100 Advisory Board.

Passionate about population health and the role health systems play in promoting wellness, Ms. Miller is leading a regional "Healthy Communities, Healthy Lives" initiative that includes innovative, research-based strategies and a partnership with Blue Zones Project. Task forces focusing on healthy eating, healthy challenges, public awareness and developing running, walking and bike trails have been created as part of the program.
