CEO Dr. Thomas Beeman: Bringing Military Experience to Lancaster General Health

Thomas Beeman, PhD, FACHE, became president and CEO of Lancaster (Pa.) General Health in 2005.

Dr. Beeman has more than 35 years of experience in healthcare. Prior to joining LGH, he served as president and CEO of Saint Thomas Health Services in Nashville, Tenn., and as senior vice president for hospital operations and executive director of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Dr.  Beeman is not just involved in healthcare at LGH, he also has influence at the state level. In February, he was appointed to the board of the Pennsylvania eHealth Partnership Authority, which was established to create the technology for medical providers to safely exchange medical information electronically. His term on the board lasts through July 5, 2014.

In addition to serving at LGH, Dr. Beeman serves his county. He is a rear admiral in the United States Navy Reserve and served as the deputy commander for the National Intrepid Center of Excellence, National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., for eight months. The center is a facility treating military personnel and veterans who have suffered from traumatic brain injuries. "My time there provided invaluable knowledge from which LG Health can benefit," he said in a news release.

Outside of his successful career as a healthcare and military leader, Dr. Beeman is also a published author. He co-wrote the book Leading from Within and has also authored several academic articles.

Dr. Beeman earned his PhD from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. He also holds two master's degrees, one in hospital administration and another in health education.
